End of Reception

Friday saw Little Man finish his first year at school in reception. It is hard to believe that he has completed his first year already, it only seems like yesterday I was taking him in for his first day. I remember his first day so clearly, I held it together until I got home and cried.

When he started school he couldn’t write his name, in fact he couldn’t really write at all, he couldn’t tell the time or add numbers together. He could count to 10 and then got all the numbers mixed up past 10 and his speech wasn’t the best. Little Man used to pronounce L as a Y so yellow would be yeyyow.

A full school year later…

Little Man can write his name and write sentences, he can add numbers together using numbers from 1-20, he can now count way past 100 and his speech is perfect. He can partially tell the time and the change in him is massive.

He has changed so much and has really come out of his shell. He will stick up for himself¬†where-as before he wouldn’t. He has made so many new friends and in turn so have I. He has received awards for his attendance and awards for his behaviour.

Little Man had his report last week and we were all so proud of how amazing it was. After having a quick chat with his teacher, he said Little Man was an absolute star and was never any trouble at all.

I hope when he goes into year 1 he carries on the good work and carries on having the amazing reports. The speed at which he has learnt astounds me.

Well done Little Man carry on how you are and you will go very far… remember the sky’s the limit!

Here is a little picture of his first and last day.

    • Ha I was like that even on his first day I was in denial. I got home and I cried, but it was so worth it when he came out of school and was bouncing with excitement and its always stayed that way too.

  5. Such a great way to keep track of what they are doing. I’m so glad he’s enjoyed his year!

  6. Ahh! I love hearing about how much kids change and learn in their first year, my daughter starts in a years time and if she does half as well as your little guy i’ll be happy!

    • awww they learn so much in their first year. The little ones are like a sponge and take everything in. It wont seem like 5 minutes until this time next year and your little girl will be starting.

Reception is such a developing year isn’t it? You can’t quite believe how much they pick up and how much they learn from reception class. 12 months and my girls will be starting – SOB!!

    • It really wasn’t as bad as I thought. I thought I would be a right mess when he started, I did have a cry but after I saw how much he was enjoying himself I was soon at peace with him being in school and he absolutely loves it. x

  8. Ah you must be so proud! My daughter starts in September and I am already emotional about it. I’m pleased he enjoyed his first year x
