An update on our journey with Congenital Hypothyroidism

Last week we had another blood test and once again all levels were normal. We have not had any dose change since December 2014 and its great news Bubs is doing so well.

He is meeting all his milestones and our consultant is so happy with how he is doing.

Bubs is on 2.5ml each morning and that’s 100mcg in 5ml

With Bubs first birthday just passed its making me think back a year and what we were about to be faced with. It was a scary time however I am just forever thankful that he’s doing so well now a year on. I remember looking on the internet and couldn’t really find much out. At the time all I wanted was to speak to real people who had first hand experience of this. I didn’t want to read forums about it and what it is. I joined a few Facebook groups (there were 3) and I’ve made a wonderful friend. Her Little girl was born on the same day as Bubs and has Hypothyroidism. We haven’t yet met up but we are going to meet up and keep in touch especially for the kids. We sent birthday cards and hopefully in a few years once the kids are both old enough they will be able to chat together.

So glad to hear that everything is going so well! It must be such a relief when the tests come back with an all clear!

Sounds like you both would be in a great position to offer each other support. Having someone who’s going through the same thing can be very helpful x

I think it must really help to have someone to talk to who is in the same boat. A friend’s child has a very rare condition and she has friends all over the world that she has met online whose children have the same or similar conditions.

  4. Awwww, I am glad he’s doing so well and meeting all his milestones. I am also very glad you have someone to talk to about it. Facebook can be an amazing place to connect with people! xx

I know people complain that social media has destroyed all real interaction but it is brilliant for finding support and like minded people.

    • On this occasion Social media helped us so much. Without social media we would have felt so alone. There is hardly anything on the internet about it as its not very common. There isn’t many people in the FB group and a lot are in the USA however finding Melissa who has a daughter in the Uk not to far from us with the same condition is amazing. xx

I never realized how helpful facebook groups can be. That sounds like an extraordinary stressful situation on a mommy’s heart – but having another mom to consult with is so necessary sometimes! Stay strong momma! You’re little man is a champ! 🙂

Good news on the results. It’s lovely that there’s so many online forums and groups where you can meet like minded people especially if you’ve got common interests.

  9. I am glad that everything went well at the appointment. It must have been so worrying for you, but it is nice you have managed to find someone else going through the same thing. How weird they were born on the same day xx
