Happy 1st Birthday Bubs

Happy 1st birthday to our beautiful baby boy.

You came into the world on the 15th September 2014 via planned C-section. You weighed 9lbs 1 oz and was born at 0941. We couldn’t believe how lucky we were to have you and how beautiful you were.

We spent 2 nights in hospital and came out when you were just 2 tiny days old. You had the usual baby jaundice or so we thought.

We took you home looking yellow but as most newborns we wasn’t worried. We put you in the window however noticed your jaundice wasn’t going.

On day 5 we took you for you new-born heel prick which everyone expects to come back fine. What I wasn’t ready for was the call 2 days later asking us to go into hospital straight away as there was a problem.

We were advised there was a very high reading on your thyroid. We knew something wasn’t right as you were hardly feeding (this is a symptom of thyroid problems) We were told it was either you had no thyroid or had one which wasn’t working at all. The very next day we were all sent to Addenbrooks for you to have a scan. Scan came back showing you had no thyroid at all. We were devastated however had to look at the positives…

  • You would grow up being totally fine and wouldn’t have really any problems
  • No one would ever know there was anything different about you
  • you should hit all your milestones as any other child would do
  • The thyroid drug is one of the most advance medications of any medications out there

Once the medication started we saw a massive change in you. You were awake more, fed more and was a much happier baby.

We have to give you medication every day for the rest of your life.

You have however met all of your milestones and you are doing so well. You medication has stayed on the same dose since December 2014 now and each blood tests shows your levels are fine. We are all so proud of you.

You are a beautiful, smiley, happy baby boy who loves to laugh at your brother when he’s being silly. You love to have cuddles and snuggle with Mummy and Daddy, you love to watch Peppa Pig even though the rest of us hate it now, you love to crawl around the house looking at everything and picking anything up. I love the bond you have with Little Man and I hope that always stays as strong as it is now.

Happy birthday baby boy we all love you so much.

Lots of love Mummy, daddy and Little Man xxx

Oh and Billy and Meme who I’m sure love you even if you do pull their fur a bit hard. x

Happy birthday! That really is the kind of phone call that every parent dreads but I’m so glad there’s medication which can help, and that he’s doing so well.

Now we understand it, its a lot better. Ive met a lovely lady who had a little girl with the same thing and we talk all the time and will meet up. So At least now Bubs has someone to grow up with who really understands. x

Happy Birthday. That must be so scary for you to hear but great that the medication is helping. My boys love Peppa Pig as well, every time my toddler hears the word ‘pig’ he points to me because of Mummy Pig!

Happy birthday – it is so hard when you find something is wrong. Our daughter was found to have a dislocated hip and it does stop you taking all the child tests for granted.

Ah yes I remember you saying actually at FunFest briefly mentioning it. I always took all the tests for granted now I wouldn’t as you can never be sure nothing will be wrong. x
