Ok so it may not have been a real plane but Doug did fly a flight simulator from Salzburg to Innsbruck and it was pretty god damn real. It actually felt VERY real, a lot more than I thought it would do.
First off just before you start reading thinking this is a review IT ISNT. I have not been paid to write this nor were we given a free day out. I have chosen to write about this day because we had such a fantastic time.
For Christmas I bought Doug a 90 minute flight simulator voucher. He has never done anything like this before so I thought it was something different to try. I had no idea what to expect at all, and before the day we did watch a few Youtube videos to see what kind of thing to expect.
When we arrived sat down for a quick chat before getting into the simulator, this is just to let you know the main things you need to know to fly the plane (simulator) Once this was over and we had asked questions it was time to go in the simulator which is actually like walking into a real plane. You walk through the plane door into the cabin where there are 4 seats and the cockpit. Doug and Stuart (Stuart was a captain for 30 years and now does these experience days) sat in the front 2 seats and I was able to sit in the cockpit just behind Doug so I could see everything.
Doug flew from Manchester to Heathrow to get a feel for the plane and learn about the buttons and controls. He then flew from Salzburg to Innsbruck which was just fantastic, you can pretty much choose anywhere you like to fly from and too.
I literally can’t tell you how much we both enjoyed the experience and how real it felt. I would highly recommend this to anyone even if they have no interest in being an airline captain. It’s just an amazing experience to do. Stuart made the experience so much more as well, he pretended air traffic control were speaking to us as they would in real life. He got Doug to speak to the cabin crew before take off asking them to take their seats. So it wasn’t just about flying from A to B it was a full flying experience.
Virtual Aerospace have centres at Shoreham, West Sussex, Staverton, Sywell and Lancashire which is where we went.
If you are looking for ideas for a present for someone why not consider this you can buy anything from 30 minutes right up to 120 minutes. I booked 90 minutes because it gives you the to fly to a few different places and really get a feel for it.
You can watch the video of the experience here.
