An update on our journey with Congential Hypothyroidism

I thought now was the perfect time to write an update. Bubs has recently had a blood test and this week also saw our consultant.

We are currently down to every 6 months for a blood test, however if we feel that his medication is slightly off then we can request a blood test at any time. Bubs was due a blood test in January however at the start of December he started to get dry skin all over his belly. This is a sign that the medication may need upping so I called up the consultant and he said best to be safe and get a blood test done early. I know babies do get dry skin and Little Man suffered with mild eczema when he was younger, I also have very sensitive skin so Bubs could just be the same. We all thought it was best just to get the bloods done early though.

Bubs had his blood test done In December and the results came back fine, so the dry skin was just a ‘baby thing’ I started to use E45 on him and it soon cleared up. Apart from that we have had a very smooth ride over the last 6 months.

Today (12th January 2016) we saw our consultant. He was amazed at how Bubs has grown over the last 6 months. He asked me lots of question to make sure he was doing everything he should be doing at this age and he was very happy with everything. Bubs weight has also started to slow down, he is putting on about alb a month and so the consultant is happy with this too.

Overall it was a very positive meeting and everyone is happy with everything. We are seeing the consultant again in May and hopefully all will be good again. Bubs is doing great which makes a very happy Mummy, Daddy and Big Brother.

There’s nothing worse than ongoing treatment for little ones. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you that everything continues to be ok!

Some good news at least. And hope he continues to improve, I can not imagine what it’s like to have a sick child.

Thats great that the consultant is happy with his progress, it must a little relief too albeit that it is ongoing treatment as such. Hope Bubs continues on the right track 🙂 x

It is always a worry befor these appoinments when they have an underlying condition. I know I always get anxious before an appointment.
